Pinot Noir Candy from Willamette Valley Vineyards

“Pinot Noir Candy” for these incredible September evenings… 90 PT rated “Best Buy” with a special intro deal this week only!

Fresh Picked Pinot: Willamette Valley Vineyards unique Whole Cluster Fermentation captures not only a “pure, fresh-picked Pinot Noir flavor” but also a sense of place, showcasing the Willamette Valley Vineyards’ ancient volcanic, glacial & sedimentary soils as well as the “distinctive elegance and aromatic complexity” they bring to their wines. From one of the longtime pioneers in Oregon’s now deservedly popular wine region, Willamette Valley Vineyards began in 1983 with founder Jim Bernau’s “passion for Pinot Noir and other cool-climate varietals that would be classic, elegant representations of the Willamette Valley growing region.”  This is an amazing wine that’s pure drinkability will show you why Jim calls it “Pinot Noir Candy”. I’m looking forward to drinking this all through these Harvest months, and it’ll be incredible with Thanksgiving Dinner, if it lasts ’til then…
“In the September 2012 issue of Wine & Spirits magazine our 2011 Whole Cluster Pinot Noirwas recognized with a 90 point score and a “Best Buy” rating. This is the second vintage in a row of this unique wine to receive this score.” – Willamette Valley Vineyards Blog

“This light, silky Pinot exhibits a candied edge to the raspberry and watermelon flavors, finishing with a touch of nutmeg.” –Wine Spectator

“The effects of the whole cluster ferment is easy to see as the color is light ruby and the expressive nose is distinctly floral and quite spicy. The elegant red berry fruit nose dissolves into clean, pure and beautifully well-detailed flavors that are dusty and dry in the best sense of the term, all wrapped in balanced and lingering finish…I very much like the style as the supporting tannins are well-integrated…” – 89 pts, Burghound

Bourbon Country

Sweet Tea & Coca Cola, move it on over, you’re in Bourbon Country now!! Most of us in the Southeast cut our teeth on bourbon, quite literally, but the rest of the country is finally taking notice! With the rising popularity across the US you’ll see more offerings of Bourbon & Rye Whiskey in specialty cocktails, bourbon bars, fine dining restaurants, etc. So, with the higher demand on Bourbon & Rye Whiskey, and the fact that it takes 2 years and up to 20+ years depending on the bottling for Straight Bourbon, there’s a natural shortage of product to meet the market. Unlike other distilled spirits, the time it requires to make and mature Bourbon & Rye Whiskey prohibits how much they can produce. Producers are having to allocate less and less per state and release in waves to keep product throughout the year.

While it hasn’t happened overnight, it has largely taken place in the last 5-10 years or so. Limited Brands like Pappy Van Winkle,  George T. Stagg, Hirsch, Michter’s & special aged bottlings are a rare sight and it seems that will never change. So, when you see one at a cocktail bar or restaurant for $30-50 a glass, it may be the perfect opportunity to taste.

And if you happen to see your favorite Bourbon or Rye is on the shelf, snag it up, it may not be there the next time you check…

Theobroma is in!!!

Dogfish Head has built a wide portfolio of oddities and wonders, much-loved by craft beer fanatics the world over. Theobroma is inspired by an ancient recipe and is always a favorite of mine in their seasonal and limited release beers. “A celebration of chocolate, the food of the gods.” Theobroma is brewed with honey, cacao nibs, cocoa powder, ancho chilies & ground annatto.

“This Ancient Ale is based on chemical analysis of pottery fragments found in Honduras that revealed the earliest known alcoholic chocolate drink used by early civilizations to toast special occasions.” – Dogfish Head Brewery

Russian River/Sierra Nevada Collaboration

BRUX is in!! This is an especially exciting Beer release as Russian River is not distributed in our state & they make so many lauded beers!! With this Domesticated Wild Ale they’ve collaborated with Sierra Nevada, bringing us a few cases of these Belgian cork & cage bottles. Get it while it lasts…

“What began as mutual admiration between Sierra Nevada’s Grossman family and Russian River’s Cilurzos has grown and progressed into genuine friendship. Brux began as an idea and has grown into something altogether different. The liquid manifestation of change over time. Refermented in the bottle with Brettanomyces bruxellensis, Brux will change and develop over time. Copper-colored, dry and complex, with slightly tart notes of green grass, pear, spice and lemon — this ale will progress in the bottle for many years.”
