In the Champagne region of France most labels are made by negociants who purchase fruit from all over the region to make their blended vintage cuvee’s, thus giving a consistent style and quality from year to year. While this is loved and appreciated, Grower Champagne, affectionately termed “Farmer’s Fizz” by those of us who love it, is Champagne made by the Grower from his/her own vineyards’ fruit. Much like a Single-vineyard or more specific regional designation, Grower Champagne expresses the specific qualities of a place and winemaker. Why buy Grower Champagnes? Because the flavors vary from year to year and from vineyard to vineyard, so these bottles are a different experience every time you open them and surprisingly they offer a Value that you won’t find from the big Champagne houses (Grand Crus for the price of regular cuvee,etc).
