We’ve waited patiently and today are rewarded with 4 delicious brews. In 500mL singles we have Freak of Nature (a double IPA specifically designed as a “hop delivery vehicle”) and Xibalba (the spiced chocolate pumpkin ale you’ve been searching for). In 4pks we have Pernicious IPA (Wicked Weed’s flagship IPA who just brought home a silver this year at GABF) and Tyranny Red IPA (a classic hoppy amber ale).

Also in this week:

Terrapin The Walking Dead Blood Orange IPA – Amber ale, blood orange peel, and hops, hops, hops! Stockpile before those Zombies come ‘a knocking.

Grayton Beer 1890 Founder’s Ale – From their website: “Full bodied and deep amber in color, 1890 Founder’s Ale showcases its robust malt complexity with notes of caramel, toffee and roasted walnuts. Westbrook has graced us with their birthday cake once again in the form of their serious imperial stout aged on cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, cinnamon sticks, and fresh habanero peppers. Extremely limited quantities, we all wish there was more of this to go around!

Founders’ massively complex Devil Dancer is here in 4packs. The huge malt character balances the loads of alpha acids into a devilishly delicious 112 IBU symphony of flavor.

The presence of arsenic in levels higher than California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment’s (OEHHA) Safe Harbor Levels (available here) is causing quite a stir. http://www.taintedwine.com/ hosts the court document and some choice excerpts, as well as the list of wines specifically under the microscope. The Wine Institute makes some good counter points, and I like the approach Snopes takes to these types of headline news stories. Mac’s will calmly operate as we were before this information came to light while patiently awaiting either additional label information or clearer (more wine-centric) OEHHA regulations.
